RIP Tina Turner

Today, when I came home from dropping my car off at the garage, the first news article I saw after going online was an announcement: Tina Turner had died.
After a not-so-great day, this news knocked the wind out of me.
Tina Turner is one of my favorite celebrities. I have her albums, I've seen the movies, I've read her biography.  She was one of those celebrities, those personas, that just seemed fixed in time and space. Immutable. Unmovable.
But nothing and no one lasts forever.
Miss Turner passed at her home in Switzerland, this morning. She found fame and fortune, true enough, and weathered the slings and arrows of an unkind world, but in the end, she found someone to love, who loved her.
I hope that, when she passed, it was with grace and in peace.
And, I hope that, wherever she is now, she knows that she had a positive impact on a lot of people, who will still listen to her music and draw strength and inspiration from it, and the life that she lived.
Rest in peace, Miss Turner.
You will be missed, but not forgotten.

RIP Nichelle Nichols

I just saw a news article about Nichelle Nichols passing.  She was a pioneer and an example for a lot of people, and even if her last few years were not ideal, the memory of her, and the example that she set and will continue to set, should be appreciated and celebrated.

A Sad Day :(

Today is a sad day for me.  This morning, I received word that my friend, J. Tuberski, had passed away. I am not entirely surprised by this news as Tuberski had a history of heart/circulatory problems. He was about 7 feet tall and I'm told that very tall people often have similar issues. I know that he was on a plethora of blood pressure related medications.

It's been a while since we spoke, but we would email quite a bit.

I'm sad, but I'm doing okay. I'm sitting here, thinking about my friend and remembering his life. I think he had a good one. I think he enjoyed his life. I think that the one thing that would have made his life better is if he could have found a quality lady to share it with. I think he would have liked to have been a husband and father.

My friend is gone now and I will miss him. But I take comfort in the fact that he had a good life that he seemed to enjoy. I hope his passing was gentle.

Goodbye, Tuberski.
